Federated Identity Appliance

Organizations are continually challenged to provide users with access to protected external resources such as Google Apps, ADP Payroll, Salesforce.com, Apple iTunesU, Turnitin, and other collaborative resources. Federated Identity, also known as External SSO, eliminates the need for organizations and partners to manage accounts, passwords, and credentials for this external access through the use of Single Sign-on using existing internal credentials.
Figure 1: Federated SSO
Aegis’s Federated Identity Appliance provides the technology infrastructure that enables customers to rapidly deploy a federated identity solution to many common federated SSO targets including ADP, Google Apps, and the InCommon Federation. The appliance leverages existing credentials by integrating with Microsoft Active Directory or other LDAP directories for authentication and authorization. The Aegis Appliance is a turnkey technical infrastructure, allowing staff to focus on the business, legal, and end-user aspects of rolling out a federated SSO solution. The Aegis Federated Identity Appliance is a pre-configured hardware (or VMWare) and software solution that uses standards-based components and enterprise-class software that supports future identity needs such as password management, single sign-on (SSO) and Google Apps provisioning.

Aegis’s Federated Identity Appliance Infrastructure

Aegis USA offers three versions of the federated identity appliance to meet our customer’s needs as well as their current infrastructure preferences. These options include appliances built on Oracle Identity Federation, Shibboleth, and OpenSSO. Each provides secure and centralized access control and single sign-on (SSO) for external applications based on the SAML standard. Together with redundant hardware, AegisUSA provides a hardened, robust, 24x7, highly scalable, high-performance federation solution that is revolutionary in the market today.

Conclusion

Aegis’s Federated Identity Appliance provides an opportunity for customers to quickly expand their reach by providing turn-key infrastructure necessary for enabling federated/external SSO to InCommon, Google Apps, Microsoft Live, ADP, and others allowing streamlined access to external applications and 3rd party content partners.
In addition, the Aegis Appliance allows for future IAM initiatives such as provisioning, SSO, and password management to leverage the pre-configured appliance infrastructure.
